Type Locality and Naming

Along the city of Goznau, South Fergana. O.S.Vyalov, 1945 (153, p.124)

Synonym: Goznaus Suite, Гозначская св.


Lithology and Thickness

White saccharoidal gypsum with interlayers, lenses, nests of clays, limestones at the top, red-colored siltstone (aleurolites), sandstones in the lower part. (mountain "i" of K.P.Kalitsky's scheme) (213). Up to 68 m.

Lower contact

Lies on various mountains of the Upper Cretaceous

Upper contact

It is overlain by the Bukhara Fm. But the Goznau Fm conformably overlain by Ravat-Paleog Fm (See lower limit of Ravat-Paleog Fm)

Regional extent

South Fergana. Included in the Akchagyl mountain and correlated with the Akchagyl Fm. Southwestern Gissar, Kyzylkum, Bukhara Depression, Upper Bosagin sub-suite of South Kazakhstan.

Fossils

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Corbula (Cuncocorbula) angulata Lam., C. (C.) biangulata Desh., Modiolus elegans Sow., Modiolus Jeremejevi Rom.


Age 

Attributed to the Lower Paleocene (Danian- Selandian stage). In the Strat. layers (444) it was attributed to the Paleocene.
